Repiping Troubleshooting
How to Determine if Your Home Needs Repiping
It is not every day that you decide to repipe your house. This is a big project
and it deserves the attention of a seasoned professional. Inland Empire Plumbing
can provide California homeowners with the expertise needed to get the job done
quickly and to a high standard of quality. The first step is to decide whether a
full plumbing replacement is necessary.
Leaky Pipes and Other Noticeable Plumbing Problems
Some signs are very obvious and take little guesswork to find. A leaky pipe may
be found in your bathroom, kitchen, laundry room or anywhere else your family accesses
the water system. If you identified such an issue, you probably already turned off
the water supply in that area and know work is required. While the individual incident
may require a fixture or pipe replacement, this could be an indication that a bigger
problem is lurking within the walls of your home.
If you find yourself frequently replacing pipes, you may only be putting a band
aid on a larger issue. An aged or damaged water system will experience higher than
normal bursts and leaks. If you think this is happening in your home, contact Inland
Empire Plumbing right away to make an appointment.
Unexplained Water Pressure Changes in Your Home
You could have a plumbing problem without visible leaking water. Unexplained water
pressure changes should be noted and addressed immediately. A drop in pressure could
indicate a plumbing problem on your property or it could have something to do with
the source. If your home is hooked up to a well, make sure all your power is on
and working. An outage or tripped breaker could cause the system to loose pressure.
Excessive water consumption could also cause wells to require time to replenish.
Those with city water may also notice a similar problem when there are issues in
the water main. A major leak should be reported to your municipal water authority.
This situation is not always easy to see from a resident’s perspective. Try turning
off all water in your home then take a look at the meter. If it is still spinning,
then there is a plumbing issue in your home. If it is not, then the problem is most
likely related to the supply source.
When none of the above applies; you may have a water pipe leak on your property.
Old galvanized and copper piping will be prone to holes and damaged joints. You
could be losing money every day because of water that escaped the system through
a crack or burst pipe. Repiping a house is the most effective approach to addressing
the entire problem rather than the symptoms you identify as they occur.
Is there Rust in Your Drinking Water?
Another way to tell whether replacing pipe is necessary is to check the quality
of your drinking water. Your faucets should produce clean, clear liquid. If you
notice particles of rust, this is a good sign that it is time to update the plumbing
in your home.
